Biggest shopping festival of India


Gurgaon will host biggest shopping festival of India to showcase the millennium city. The festival is scheduled to begin from 27th September on the occasion of World Tourism Day and will culminate on Haryana Day, 1st November. This was revealed by the Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria, who is also Chairman of the organizing committee of the festival in a press conference organized today in hotel Leela Kampinski. He also unveiled the logo of the Gurgaon Shopping Festival and launched its website. The festival is being organized by Haryana Tourism Mart, REDCO Haryana, Haryana Tourism and District Administration jointly. Mr Kataria said that the festival will be organized with public-private-partnership and the organizing committee has prepared an action plan to showcase the rich cultural heritage of India to the visitors during the Common Wealth Games (CWG). During the games, about one lac visitors were expected to arrive in India and through this festival, we want to attract them to Gurgaon. He said that during the 36 day long festival, numerous programmes like cultural, entertainment, adventure sports would be organized involving the local stake holders besides providing best shopping deals from a wide range of national and international brands. The events and activities would be such that have never happened in north India.

He said that the objective of organizing grand shopping carnival was to promote Gurgaon as India’s Millennium city on the threshold of becoming a global, business and leisure hub. At the same time, the youth and corporate of Gurgaon and NCR would be exposed to adventure sports which were never seen before and also to Auto Mall where India’s largest multicity automobile exhibition would be displayed. According to Mr Kataria, the idea is to promote Gurgaon as one of the World’s most modern and progressive townships besides being a foremost shopping destination. He said that the festival would give a huge fillip to the industry and bring in the best shopping deals from a wide range of brands and retailers, showcase the marvelous handicrafts of Haryana and also a rare opportunity to experience the global cuisines from around the world in one single platter.

On the intimation of Mr Kataria, a two minute silence was also observed in memory of the road accident victims of district Gurgaon who lost their lives on Sunday when the canter carrying them fell into a ravine near Uttarkashi while they were on their way back from Gomukh. The chairman of REDCO Arun Anand announced a relief of Rs. 12 lakh from the next of kin of the deceased on the behalf of his organization.

Dr Naresh Trehan of Medicity Medanta said that no doubt Gurgaon is a millennium city and the problems here should be addressed jointly by the district administration and civil society. He said that since two months time was left for this major event, we must identify the priorities and form subcommittees to work on them.

The chairman of Haryana Tourism Mart Subhash Goyal, who is also co-chairman of the organizing committee, told about the plan of shopping festival while Amit Jain, a corporate, said that people from all spheres of life who are working in Gurgaon need to give a whole some experience to present the city as one of leading corporate hub। Honorary Secretary of REDCO Haryana Col. Prithvi Nath, General Secretary of Haryana Tourism Mart Major SK Yadav, Chief Coordinator Mahesh Behl, Event Manager Sandeep Kapoor were also present.
