Postpone the Nature Bazaar

We would like to inform all of you, that due to security reasons in Delhi during the Common Wealth Games, Chief Minister of Delhi (Mrs. Sheila Dixit) has advised us to postpone the Nature Bazaar, as there will be traffic diversions in the entire city that might affect the movement for the general public. Therefore considering the above problems, we have decided to change the dates; our new dates for the Nature Bazaar will be from 21st to 31st Oct. 2010, at IGNCA, 1, C.V. Mess, New Delhi.

Crafts of India Gallery at INA Metro Station to Showcase Handlooms and Handicraft Works

Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Textiles, while inaugurating the “Crafts of India Galleries” at INA metro station here today, stated that his Ministry has been enabling in the development of handicrafts and handloom sector in order to ensure that crafts persons and weavers who are the examples of living traditions are helped in showcasing their works at an appropriate platform. The Textiles Ministry is also making a constant effort to acquaint people from all walks of life, particularly the youth of India and the foreign visitors with the exquisite handlooms and handicrafts of the country which are an intrinsic part of the ‘Incredible India’ story, he informed. Shri Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Urban Development, Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi, Minister of State for Textiles, Ms. Rita Menon, Secretary, Textiles and Shri E. Sreedharan MD, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. were also present on the occasion.
The Minister observed that Metro Stations are popular spots in Delhi, attracting large number of footfalls every day. It was felt that showcasing the strength of Indian tradition of crafts and weaves at Metro Stations would be an excellent way to acquaint the commuters with the depth and richness of traditional crafts and weaves. Therefore, select forms of paintings, crafts tradition and weaves were accordingly chosen, characterizing the ethos and styles from across the length & breadth of the country depicting the richness of its tradition and its diversity.
The crafts of India gallery at INA Metro Station will showcase 58 Panels crafted by Master crafts persons and Weavers from Handloom & Handicrafts sector. It has 16 panels of hand embroidery, 10 panels of hand woven artifacts and 22 panels of traditional paintings and murals depicting crafts, weaving style and paintings as detailed below:

Information panels have been put at each of the 3 entrances of the Metro Station providing information about the crafts displayed. This project has entailed an investment of Rs.1.87 crores from Ministry of Textiles.
Later Shri Maran informed that the Ministry of Textiles has also prepared a coffee table book indicating nuances of the artifacts displayed at this station to supplement the “Crafts of India” project. This coffee table book will be sold at Dilli Haat, Central Cottage Industries Corporation (CCIC) showroom and at the INA Metro railway station. This book has details of all the panels exhibited at the station. During the inauguration function, Secretary (Textiles) handed over the artifacts to MD DMRC.

खादी ग्रामोद्योग कर्मियों ने धरना-प्रदर्शन किए

सोमवार को प्रदेश के सभी खादी ग्रामोद्योग को बंद रखा गया है। केंद्र द्वारा ग्रामोद्योग को निजी हाथों में सौंपे जाने के विरोध में खादी ग्रामोद्योग कर्मियों ने धरना-प्रदर्शन किए। खादी ग्रामोद्योग सेवा सदन गुड़गांव के सचिव मामचंद शर्मा ने कहा कि देश को आजादी दिलाने के लिए अंग्रेजी हुकूमत का विरोध ही नहीं, बल्कि स्वदेशी उत्पाद को बढ़ावा देने वाले खादी को ही बाजार से हटाने की साजिश की जा रही है। खादी को अब ग्रामोद्योग से हटाकर कारपोरेट हाउस के हाथों में दिए जाने की तैयारी केंद्र सरकार कर रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि केंद्र सरकार की ओर से खादी को आम आदमी के पहुंच से बाहर करने के लिए अब उस पर दी जा रही सभी छूट को खत्म कर दिया गया है। गांधी जयंती पर भी खादी की खरीद पर दिए जाने वाली तीस फीसदी की छूट अब लोगों को नहीं मिल सकेगी। सोहना खादी ग्रामोद्योग मंडल के सचिव नरेंद्र यादव ने बताया कि गांधी जयंती से 120 दिन बाद तक खादी के खरीद पर तीस फीसदी की छूट दी जा रही थी। इसके अलावा अन्य दिनों में दस फीसदी की छूट दी जाती थी। ये सभी छूट खत्म कर दी गई हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि खादी ग्रामोद्योग के सभी कर्मी इसके विरोध में आंदोलन करेंगे। सोमवार को गुड़गांव के सभी ग्रामोद्योग की दुकानें बंद रहीं।

DEVELOPMENT OF COTTAGE INDUSTRY

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) during 2008-09 and 2009-10 has approved the following six new schemes for development and promotion of the khadi and village industries sector through the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) for implementation:-

“Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)” for creation of additional employment opportunities through establishment of micro enterprises. The Scheme is being implemented through the KVIC as the single nodal agency at the national level. At the State/Union Territories level, the scheme is implemented through field offices of KVIC, State/Union Territory Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs) and District Industries Centres (DICs) with the involvement of Banks. Under this Programme, entrepreneurs can establish village industries, by availing margin money assistance from the KVIC / KVIBs of States & Union Territories/ DICs and loans from implementing public sector scheduled commercial Banks, selected regional rural Banks and co-operative Banks, etc., for projects with a maximum cost of Rs. 10 lakh each in the service/business sector and up to Rs.25 lakh each in the manufacturing sector.

(ii) Scheme for “Enhancing Productivity and Competitiveness of Khadi Industry and Artisans” with the objective, inter alia, to make khadi industry more competitive with more market-driven, profitable production and sustained employment for khadi artisans and related service providers by replacement of obsolete and old machinery and equipment and repairs to/renovation of existing/operational machinery and equipment, extend an evenly balanced and need-based support in all areas of Khadi activities viz. production, distribution, promotion and capacity building.

(iii) Workshed Scheme for Khadi Artisans to provide financial assistance exclusively to khadi spinners and weavers belonging to below poverty line (BPL) category for construction of worksheds.

(iv) Scheme for Strengthening of Infrastructure of Existing weak Khadi Institutions and Assistance for Marketing Infrastructure’ to assist identified weak khadi institutions so as to enable those institutions regain their status and revive their potential for reemployment, and improving marketing of khadi products through development of marketing infrastructure, including renovation of selected sales outlets of khadi institutions, on a limited basis.

(v) Market Development Assistance (MDA) Scheme on production of khadi for implementation with effect from 01.04.2010 by KVIC during 2010-11 and 2011-12, which envisages financial assistance @ 20% of production value on khadi and polyvastra which will be shared among artisans, producing institutions and selling institutions in the ratio 25:30:45. Under the new system of MDA, sales are expected to be evenly spread throughout the year, the institutions will have the flexibility to use the assistance in improving the outlets, products, giving incentive to customers, etc.

(vi) Khadi Reforms and Development Programme funded by the Asian DeveloBank with provision for setting up of a marketing organization through private participation, including market development like market survey, design inputs, brand building, khadi mark, promotion, etc., opening of 20 new sales outlets in metropolitan cities and State Capitals and renovation and modernization of around 1200 sales outlets.

The details of targets set by KVIC for these six schemes for year 2010-11, are :-

Khadi Reforms and Development Programme Rs.192 crore 50 selected khadi institutions are proposed to be extended assistance so as to become self reliant.
