ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF TWO ADDITIONAL HANDLOOM CLUSTERS AT CHHINDWARA
Thiru. Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Textiles has laid the foundation stone of Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) at Chhindwara, in Madhya Pradesh today in the presence of Thiru. Kamal Nath, Minister of Road Transport and Highways. The estimated expenditure for setting up of permanent campus is Rs. 10 crore.
While laying the foundation stone, Thiru. Maran indicated that Apparel Industry is in need of 5 lakh trained workers and to impart the requisite skill in the apparel industry, there is a necessity for skill development training centre, such as Apparel Training and Design Centre. He further stated that with the setting up of a permanent campus at Chhindwara for the design centre the intake of the students will increase from 500 to 2,000.
Thiru. Maran also announced during his speech that Rs.1 crore would be sanctioned by the Ministry of Textiles for the holistic development of two existing handloom clusters at Saunsar and Lodhikhera in Chhindwara District and further two additional handloom clusters will be developed, considering the handloom tradition at Chhindwara.
Thiru. Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, acknowledged the fact that the proposed permanent ATDC campus would be a boon to the skill development of textiles workers in this area. Thiru. Kamal Nath recalled the vision with which Thiru. Maran worked in his earlier capacity as Minister of Communications and Information Technology and said that the tempo which the Ministry of Textiles has already assumed under the stewardship of Thiru. Maran hoped will help all the sectors under the Ministry to achieve excellence, paving a way for the country’s textiles sector to position itself eminently in the global textiles scenario.
